Wayne Omonuwa
Wayne Omonuwa is the Founder and Principal Consultant of WEC. He collaborates with public and private stakeholders throughout Nigeria to expand access to reliable, affordable, and sustainable electricity, unlocking significant local economic growth. With over a decade of experience, Wayne specialises in developing decentralised energy resource (DER) business models and implementing innovative, market-driven solutions that accelerate energy sector reforms and facilitate the transition to cleaner energy sources.
An industry leader in DER business model design and market adoption, Wayne spearheaded the development of Nigeria’s pioneering interconnected mini-grid model for commercial clusters and rural communities, successfully piloted at Wuse Market and Toto Community. He has since worked with various teams to develop other influential business models, including the Commercial Street Business Model, the Renewable Embedded Generation Business Model, and a utility-enabled commercial and industrial (C&I) DER model for broader implementation.
Wayne’s extensive expertise encompasses regulatory reform, grid modernisation, and African energy planning initiatives. He has advised utility executives on renewable energy strategies, supported national decarbonisation projects, and developed robust tools and frameworks to enhance grid performance through DER deployment. Additionally, Wayne provides high-level technical, transaction advisory, and strategic program design for numerous clean energy initiatives via diverse partnership structures. He has also designed and implemented an operational framework for establishing an Energy Management Unit (EMU) for utilties.
A committed professional, Wayne is a member of the Institute of Engineering and Technology (IET). He earned a Master’s degree in International Management from Henley Business School, UK, and a Bachelor’s degree with honours in Electronic Engineering from the University of Reading, UK. He also holds multiple professional development certificates, including specialised training from Cranfield University, UK.
