WEC is pleased to have designed a Grid Modernization Framework to support the transition of distribution utilities into smart grid systems that improve efficiency, reduce losses, and enhance reliability of the Nigerian grid. The Utility Smart Grid Integration Project partnered with the Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO) to develop and validate this framework, engaging with leadership at all levels to ensure that it is rooted in the operational and financial realities that Nigerian utilities face daily.
Funded by the UK PACT Clean Energy Transition Programme and delivered by a consortium including WEC, Greenage Technologies and Priston Mill, the project produced a practical roadmap that maps smart grid technologies to the most pressing challenges of the distribution utilities, including high ATC&C losses, limited network visibility, and constrained capital. The phased framework was designed to be replicable across the DisCos and scalable for sector-wide transformation.
WEC looks forward to continuing to building on this foundation as it continues to deliver practical solutions for the evolving challenges of the African power sector.
